Inspired by the classic radios of the 1940’s, 50’s and early 60’s, like Grundig, Telefunken and Nordmende, the Tesslor 601 is unlike any mass produced AM/FM receiver you’ll find.
From its hand finished case and back-lit precision tuning dial to its “magic eye” tube, the R601S is a hand-crafted receiver that combines the best of modern radio electronics with tube amplification to produce an unequaled sound.
The R601S is a remarkable radio. Apart from its vintage looks, the radio combines a highly refined microprocessor stereo receiver with tube-based pre-amplifier, final amplifier and tuned speakers to produce that incredibly ‘warm’ tube sound for which vintage gear is famous.
The radio includes a number of unique features like a precision tuning dial with the same type of geared dial friction you’d experience when tuning a classic radio. The back lighting of the dial nicely highlights the classic design and glows warmly when the radio is in operation. The greenish ‘magic eye’ tube glows and changes shape as you tune across stations to provide a visual indication of when your chosen station is tuned properly. Even the On/Off /Volume switch has that distinct audible ‘click’ you’d hear when turning on a vintage radio.
But in understanding how customers like to use products today, the makers of the R601S added a few things not found on most vintage gear. For example, in the Aux mode, the R601S will amplify and play a stereo audio source, like an MP3 player. In the Aux mode (with wired cables attached to the output connectors), the R601S will amplify and play an audio source like an MP3 player. In the Aux mode (without attached cables), the Bluetooth function is enabled. To pair the Tesslor with your nearby Bluetooth device, simply search for and pair with Tesslor radio. (Adjust your device output volume as needed as well as the Tesslor volume control to adjust audio level – see the Bluetooth instruction manual for more details). The rear panel has RCA type input jacks for stereo audio as well as a 3.5mm headphone output jack and a 3.5mm jack for recording. Switches on the rear panel allow you to select either the internal AM and FM antennas or external AM and FM antennas you connect using rear-mounted plugs.
Here’s what a few users have said about the R601S:
…An incredible radio that sounds better the more we use it. There’s nothing like the warm sound of tubes…
It looks and sounds fantastic. Period.
In an age of disposable products, it’s hard to believe anyone makes something this nice anymore…
Finally, we’d like to add a few words about the finish of the R601S: We describe it as “black color” but it’s a little more involved. The finish is dark toned, near black but in under daylight you’ll notice it’s really more of a blackish-brown with a reddish undertone. The finish is evocative of the deep lacquered finish you’d find on a classic radio. We think the effort made by the cabinet makers turned out great. We add this explanation as a few of our customers have pointed out its much nicer than they expected.
New for November 2015: The solid walnut version of this radio has returned. The R601SW (“S” for stereo; “W” for wood) is identical to the R601S in all ways (including bluetooth) except the cabinet. The R601SW has a beautiful solid Walnut cabinet that is almost beyond description. Hand crafted from a large piece of furniture-grade Walnut, the radio is absolutely stunning with a smooth finish showing rich and subtle grain details. Since each cabinet is hand made from wood, each one is unique. The new R601SW now features Bluetooth 4.0. Quantities are EXTREMELY LIMITED.
We hope you decide to select one of our exceptional radios. Learn more about the R601S Specifications here or read about the Tesslor story of how these products were created. We’re passionate about classic radios and we think the R601S is the best of both worlds – superior technology and an elegant design.
